How Does it Work?

The
active ingredient in ÆGIS Microbe Shield® (Also known as AEM 5700) forms a
colourless, odourless, positively charged polymer that chemically bonds to
the treated surface. You could think of it as a layer of electrically
charged swords. When a microorganism comes in contact with the treated
surface, the quaternary amine sword punctures the cell membrane and the
electrical charge shocks the cell. Since nothing is transferred to the now
dead cell, the antimicrobial doesn't lose strength and the sword is ready
for the next cell to contact it. Note that in order for AEM 5700 to continue
its effectiveness, normal cleaning of treated surfaces is necessary. Dirt
build-up, paint, dead microbes, etc. will cover the treatment prohibiting it
from killing microorganisms and other antimicrobials on the market.
Does Not Wash Away
The ÆGIS Microbe Shield® can be removed from the
surface by harsh abrasion or when the surface is covered by dirt, soap films
or other surface-covering materials. Antimicrobials cannot replace normal
cleaning and good sanitation; however, the ÆGIS Microbe Shield® can provide
lasting protection for the normal life of the treated surface. Normal home
or professional laundering methods restore the surface for ongoing
protection.
